Use Shorter URLs
Industry studies have found that shorter URLs rank higher than longer URLs. Using a keyword in your URL or in a page name (slug) can improve visibility. Search engines will recognize the use of your keywords and rank your site higher.
Below you can see the top 2 search results for the keyword “Keto Diet” both have short URLs that have the keyword in them.
SEO Friendly Image Names
You spend a lot of time on creating awesome images for your website. Make sure search engines know what that image is by adding keywords to the file name.
Search engines can only tell what your image is by the file name and alt tag.
Before you upload your image, make sure to change the file name to one that describes the image or what information it is enhancing.
Below you can see that this site used “What is the Ketogenic Diet” as their file name and their alt tag as “overview of keto diet.”
First 150 Words
Make sure to use your focus keyword in the first 150 words on your article or post.
This is letting Google know what keyword your focus is centered toward.
This also assists your visitors to understand what information you’re delivering in your post.
In this site, they use “keto diet” in the first 150 words. This forms a clear picture of what you will be reading within the article.
Only Use h1 Tag
H1, h2, h3, h4 and h5 tags are ways to identify headlines of your article. You want to use keywords and LSI keywords within these tags.
Only use one h1 tag in your entire article. Sometimes WordPress will automatically assign the h1 tag to the page title, so you will use h2-5 tags instead within the post.
You can check the source code of your article to see if your theme or platform assigns h1 tags to your title.
This does not apply to h2-5 tags. You can use as many h2, h3, h4, and h5 tags as you need.
Make sure to include outbound links to authoritative websites.
These links should give the visitor more information of the article you wrote, while also building trust with your readers.
They can be used to as references to show were you got your information, or as a direct pathway to supplemental material.
You should be using 2 to 3 outbound links in your posts for optimum ranking.
Hopefully you found these tips useful and are able to start using them to create quality content for your website.
